Tonefold is a free, open-source AI music composer for macOS and Windows that uses Claude to generate layered music from text descriptions. Users describe a song and receive chords, melody, bass, drums, and seven additional layer types written directly into an editable piano roll. Every note can be adjusted individually, and the app supports playback through built-in sounds without requiring a DAW. Finished compositions can be exported as MIDI, a stereo mix, or individual WAV stems per layer. An optional CLAP/VST3 plugin lets the composer run inside supported DAWs as well.
