Backplane is an open-source, self-hosted work management platform that keeps tasks, decisions, notes, and project context on a shared Kanban board for both humans and AI coding agents. It exposes boards, cards, notes, and skills to AI agents through an MCP server, allowing tools like Claude Code and Codex CLI to read and update project state directly. Teams can use Backplane as a standalone planning tool or connect their own agents via MCP without any cloud dependency. Optional autonomous runners handle configured workflows and report progress, results, and costs back to the shared board.
